Strawberry Mansion Equestrian Center, Inc. is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit, charitable organization. It has made a difference in the area, not only by recognizing a need, but by developing viable solutions to some of the major problems in the community it serves. As our youth today find it more and more difficult to escape the bondage of an ever-increasing drug problem and wealth of unhandled energy, it is important that this beneficial community service be continued at its present location.
Strawberry Mansion Equestrian Center has examined and explored new ways and means of effectively engaging inner city youth and young adults in meaningful educational and cultural experiences. These experiences are aimed at introducing them to the larger society, while at the same time making them more aware of their role in the community-at large and society in general. The mystique of the ancient form of karate and the horse and cowboy are the ingredients used to lure the young people.
Strawberry Mansion Equestrian Center acts as a learning laboratory providing educational materials, teaching methods and techniques specifically designed to meet the needs of inner city youth. In addition, the program staff recruits and trains teens as leaders directly responsible for teaching others. Young people may work on a variety of projects: practicing equestrian techniques, developing leadership skills, and programming special events (rodeos/horseshows and parades). The Center's activities also promote development of physical fitness, and provide an opportunity for youth to learn about animal medicine and maintenance. |
